Paul Cott — horn

Paul Cott was born in 1984 and began playing the horn at the age of 14. He studied at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama with Richard Bissill, Jonathan Lipton and Jeffrey Bryant, and graduated with a Master's degree last year.

Paul was a member of the London Schools Symphony Orchestra and during his time at the Guildhall played with all of the Guildhall Orchestras, Britten-Pears Orchestra, Young Musicians Symphony Orchestra and as principal horn of the London Philharmonic Youth Orchestra.

Since graduating, Paul has performed with a wide range of ensembles including New London Sinfonia, Manning Camerata, Sinfonia Cymru, the London Philharmonic Orchestra’s Renga Ensemble, and on tour with multinational crossover group, Il Divo. He is currently a member of Southbank Sinfonia with whom he recently appeared as a soloist in Mozart’s Sinfonia Concertante.

Paul won Havering Young Musician of the Year in 2004 and more recently was awarded the Ivan Sutton Award for chamber music at the GSMD. He has given several recitals with the pianist Robert Scamardella in London and further afield, including an appearance at the 2007 Winchester Festival.

Recent solo engagements have included Mozart’s Concerto no.3, Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto no.1 and Schubert’s Auf Dem Strom with the tenor Andrew O’Brien. Future engagements include two performances of Schumann’s Konzertstuck for four horns and orchestra with conductor Mark Fitz-Gerald.
